Arts & Clubs

Odyssey of the Mind is open to students in Kindergarten - 6th grade, and begins during the fall.

Why do we have PBn’J (Peers Bringing Joy)?

The Rattlesnake Ridge PBn’J Team consists of highly recommended and trained 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. They strive to do the following on our school campus:

• Resolve peer disputes that interfere with the educational process
• Lead games on the Playground
• Act as Referees for football, soccer, and kickball.
• Monitor the Peaceful Playgrounds games and help solve issues that students may have while playing these games.
• Build a stronger sense of cooperation and school community
• Improve the school environment by decreasing tension and hostility
• Build self-esteem
• Increase student participation and develop leadership skills
• Improve student/student and student/teacher relationships

• Rattlesnake Ridge Student Council is actively involved in building our school culture.  We work together with our classrooms to promote student government experience and to build school pride.  We work cooperatively with the Parent Teacher Organization to teach service within our school community and to outreach to the communities surrounding us.

Student Wellness Advocacy or SWAT is a before school club that is open to 3rd-6th grade students. Members of the SWAT are school ambassadors of student health and wellness. Team members learn about physical fitness, nutrition and healthy eating and then share and promote those skills across the Rattlesnake Ridge campus.  They are responsible for preparing, planting and maintaining the school garden.  They learn about the plants in the garden and become the garden docents.  Docents will present the garden to classes and be able to talk about the benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables. 

In our first year, team members planted a winter garden and harvested many different vegetables.  The team hosted a salad luncheon and were able to enjoy and taste many new vegetables.  Last year a new garden was built to offer more gardening opportunities and experiences. Students were able to take home some of the harvest to share with their families.  This year we are adding 2 more gardens.  With the expanded garden space team members will participate in growing plants for sell and opening a Farmer's Market.

Team members will also create fitness videos to be used for fitness breaks.  They will present anti-smoking messages at the Red Ribbon Week assembly.  They will plan and implement our annual Fitness Night and Wellness Weeks. 

Track Club is open to all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who enjoy running, jumping and throwing things!  Track Club introduces students to sprint races, long distance running, relays, hurdles, long jump, shot put and softball throw.  

There is a district track meet scheduled in the Spring.  The meet gives students an opportunity to compete against students in the same grade level from other schools.  Students get to choose the events they would like to participate in.   Watch for announcements.

This year only happens once. Remember it forever. Together. 

The Yearbook Club is more than just a club!  

Yearbook club is an organization developed to create and design the yearbook. Students in the yearbook club work to improve their skills and then apply them to the yearbook.  It requires a great deal of writing and time.  It also requires time outside of class and school to take pictures and work on copying or editing at deadline time. It becomes a daily practice of journalism skills to stay ahead of the action and be prepared for upcoming events.  

In Yearbook Club, we will actually design, promote, and sell the current Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary School yearbook. Assisted by teachers, students will use an online computer program to create pages, and will also be primarily responsible for taking the pictures that will end up in the yearbook.  Our main goals will be to capture the atmosphere here at the Ridge and include every student's picture in the book.  

The Yearbook Club will be made up of students from fifth and sixth grade.  The students who are members create a yearbook that represents the uniqueness of our school.  Members design a picture page for each class.  They also create montage pages for the different school-wide events that happen throughout the school year. 

The Yearbook Club will begin meeting in September and continue through April.  (scheduled dates will be posted)

Drawing is the fundamental skill of the visual arts that can - and should - be learned by all children. 

Young Rembrandts teaches the drawing skills children need while developing learning skills that give children an academic advantage in the classroom.
