Before/After School (LEAP)

Regular hourly rate: $5.00 per hour

Family annual registration fee is $55.00 for first child, $45.00 each child after first child 

Fall and Spring Break material fee is $15.00 per child.

Summer material fee is $35.00 per child.

The following registration information applies to the MUSD Learning, Enrichment, and Play (LEAP) Program.

There is an 8-day attendance requirement per month to keep your student’s spot in the LEAP program during shorter months. 

MUSD Employees
Beginning Monday, March 24, 2025, current MUSD employees working full-time can sign up their children at the school LEAP site. All paperwork, registration fees, and a copy of child’s immunization records must be delivered to the LEAP school site your child will be attending before March 28, 2025 to guarantee their spot in LEAP for the 2025-2026 school year.

Current Families
Beginning Monday, March 31, 2025, LEAP registration for current families will begin at your school’s LEAP room. All paperwork, registration fees, and a copy of child’s immunization records must be delivered to the LEAP school site your child will be attending before April 18th to guarantee your child’s spot in LEAP for the 2025-2026 school year. 

New Families
Beginning Monday, April 21, 2025, enrollment for new families begins. Please call your school’s LEAP office for registration forms and to see if space is available. Spaces are limited at some sites. Returning your paperwork, registration fees, and copy of your child’s immunization records promptly can help to ensure your child’s spot in the LEAP program.

**Registration is $55 for first child, $45 for second or more children. Must be paid by check or money order. Please bring two emergency contacts information, IEP, behavioral plan or 504 if they have one and copy of the immunization record. 

Q: Why don’t you just expand the LEAP site and hire more staff so you can open more spots in LEAP?

A: If enrollment is high enough, we work with the school principal to expand the school site as long as space is available. In our larger schools, space is limited due to room use by the school, Fire Codes and DHS (Department of Health Services) requirements.  We also hire staff to meet state ratios and accommodate the children in our program.

Q: Why don’t you just bus kids from a larger site to another site that has room?

A: Space on the busses is limited. We would need to pay the cost of another bus and driver in order to accommodate most of the families on the wait list which is cost-prohibitive. Also, DHS requires a staff member to be on the bus with the students who are transferred to another LEAP site. To do so, the staff member must leave a vehicle at the other site in order to be on the bus with the students bussed to another LEAP site. Therefore, he/she would have to find a ride back to the other school each day to get his/her car in the evening at the end of his/her shift. Even if this plan were to work out, the extra space on the bus, when available, is often limited to only a few students. 

Q: Why don’t you open another site for larger schools with high demands for LEAP at a school nearby?

A: We currently have LEAP programs at each elementary and K-8 schools. 

Q: Do teachers take priority on the wait list over other parents who aren’t teachers?

A: No. Our program supports our entire community and students are registered on a first-come, first-served basis. We do try to accommodate MUSD staff as space is available.

Q: How soon can I pre-register for LEAP for the next school year?

A: Pre-registration is open to our currently enrolled families in April and to our new families in May. Several of our programs are open in the summer. Families may register during that time. We encourage early registration to ensure your child a spot in LEAP. 

Q: Do spots open in LEAP throughout the year?

A: Sometimes spots become available depending on if we are allowed more rooms for space, get more staff hired or if families move out of district. It is best to call the school’s LEAP site to check availability during the school year. 

Q: If space is available at the site for growth, do you hire more staff?

A: Yes. However, this process often takes a few weeks. We must post the position, interview, complete background checks. Our program is housed in Marana Unified School District and is licensed by DHS. Therefore, we must have DHS required documentation from the candidate in addition to our school district applicant documentation before they can start working. 

Q: Do you have extra staff on hand in case you need someone right away?

A: Yes. We hire On Call Aides to fill in for emergencies and absences. We hire positions year-round, including summer months. 

Q: Are most LEAP sites able to enroll all families requesting services?

A: Yes. Most of our sites are able to accommodate all families enrolling. 

Q. Once I enroll my child in LEAP are they in for as long as they go to that school or do I have to enroll each year?

A. Enrollments for LEAP are done each year. If a child enrolls it is just for that school year. In April as a current family they get the opportunity to enroll in LEAP again for the next school year before it is open to new family’s enrollment in May. 

Q. If my child moves schools during the school year does their spot in LEAP move with them?

A. We do try to accommodate moves if we can, but this depends on if the school they are moving to has space for enrollment. There is a chance we may not be able to accommodate the move.

Q. If my child attends an elementary school where the LEAP is full can they be bussed to another school’s LEAP? Or can I take them myself to another school’s LEAP program that has space?

A. No, children should attend the LEAP at the school they attend. The school district and ELO do not have a way to bus any child from one LEAP to another LEAP. The Director has the final say in special circumstances on any movements.

Q. How many days does a child have to attend to keep their spot? Can I pay for missed days to make sure that I can keep my child’s spot?

A. 8 days in a month is the required attendance to keep your spot in LEAP. We cannot accept payment for days that your child did not attend. The Director has the final say if a child does not meet the attendance requirements to allow a pass on a month. Any time your child may not attend due to extended sickness, family emergency or such, please call the site or ELO office (520-616-4506).

Q. Are we able to see in real time our accounts payments and billing? Why not?

A. Our accounting system is not on the internet, so it is not accessible in real time. We have looked into better, faster, real-time programs and the monthly cost is extremely expensive. As our program is solely tuition-based (no state or district help financially your tuitions pay for our staff salaries, benefits, materials and overhead) the cost of a new accounting system would be such that we would have to raise tuition quite a bit. We are trying to keep our program affordable for all our Marana families.

During the 2024 Summer Break, LEAP will explore all kinds of summertime fun! We will be doing STEM, arts & crafts, music, dancing and lots of fun physical activities. Don’t miss out on our exciting programs!

Tues., May 28 – Tues., July 30, 2024

CLOSED on Memorial Day (Mon., May 27), Independence Day (Thurs., July 4) and Wednesday-Friday, July 31 - August 2.  

Open to: Children must be between age 5 and children going into the 6th grade and attend one of the MUSD schools. 

Registration & Cost: Begins April 15 at each LEAP site. Registration fee is $35.00 per child and the cost is $5.00 per hour first child, $4.25 per hour for each additional child. 

Meals: MUSD provides a morning and afternoon snack. Students must bring their own lunch.

Arrival time: Children must arrive prior to 11:00 a.m. for staffing purposes (unless they are attending any other MUSD summer program and are being bused back to us).
